Dr. Chaudhry received his undergraduate degree from Weber State University in Ogden, a very beautiful small town in Utah mountains, majoring in Biology and Biochemistry. In addition to obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree, he completed a doctorate (PhD) degree in Pharmacology from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. His graduate research work at the University of Utah was sponsored by a prestigious National Institute of Health Pre-Doctoral Fellowship from Bethesda, MD under the supervision of Professor Dr. Ralph Karler which resulted in several publications. Dr. Chaudhry completed a one year of Internship at Yale University School of Medicine affiliated Yale-New Haven Hospital, Waterbury Hospital, Saint Mary’s Hospital and West Haven Veteran’s Hospital in Connecticut. He completed an Ophthalmology residency at the prestigious Yale Eye Center of the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. He was fortunate to have leadership guidance from Professor Dr. Marvin Sears and Chairman M. Bruce Shields during his 3 years of residency at Yale. On his mother’s advice, Dr. Chaudhry came to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston to pursue a two year Fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery under the mentorship of Professor Dr. Milton Boniuk, a World-class Oculoplastic Surgeon. Because of Baylor College of Medicine’s location at the heart of Texas Medical Center, Dr. Chaudhry broadened his knowledge in other areas of surgery such as Plastic Surgery, ENT and Neurosurgery, mostly because of the intertwined nature of his specialized field of Oculoplastic subspecialty.
For Dr. Chaudhry, the most important feedback and advice always has been from his Fellowship mentor, Dr. Milton Boniuk, who has helped thousands of patients from Texas and around the World over his 51-years of Professorship at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Boniuk has emphasized to always strive for excellence and be the very best one can possibly be. He has been the most influential person in Dr. Chaudhry’s professional life. Over the past decade, he has always been there for his candid advice and support through challenging times. It was not only because of many discussions and his mentoring but also his actions, way of life, and emphasis on goodness that has inspired Dr. Chaudhry. He is fortunate that Dr. Boniuk instilled values of good patient care and academic excellence which has guided his career as an effective physician and teacher in so many ways.
In addition to his enormous skills in patient care, Dr. Chaudhry has extensive research, teaching and leadership experience in the field of Ophthalmology. Over the past 16 years, Dr. Chaudhry has helped in training over 50 Ophthalmology residents and 10 Fellows in Oculoplastic Surgery. Because of his contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of Ophthalmology, American Academy of Ophthalmology honored him with the prestigious “Achievement Award” in 2008. He has served on the Editorial Board of the “EyeNet” American Academy of Ophthalmology’s monthly journal. He is currently serving on the Editorial Board of several international ophthalmology journals and regularly reviews articles submitted for the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, European Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Open Journal of Ophthalmology. He has authored and co-authored over 200 journal articles, abstracts and book chapters in the field of Ophthalmology. With his research and leadership abilities, Dr. Chaudhry has translated cutting-edge biomedical research to help his patients. As an effective leader, he defines a vision and communicates it clearly to his colleagues.
